Still.

My first shoot with the fabulous Emma Summerton.
We we're introduced by our muso boyfriends, instantly I liked Em and her images. She was able to capture something very honest and beautiful at a time when I felt invisible.
This was just the beginning of a long photographic friendship.
And still a couple of my favourite images to date.

One 'Elle of a hair do.

Returning from the crazy Taiwan adventure was a pleaseant feeling coming home to this story published for Elle Magazine.

3 hours in the Hair and make up chair to create those wicked dreads. I kept them in for 2 weeks. It drove my agent crazy. ;)

This is my "Time to Shine".

Casting for Bianca Steffani was very interesting. There was a relatively long line of girls outside the building waiting for the client to arrive. Across the street were a couple sitting and watching us in their car. Thinking nothing of it, I chatted and shared ciggies with some of the other girls. Eventually after 20 min - half an hour, we we're ushered into the studio. At a large table sitting poised ready for "the judging" are the client Bianca, a hair/make up artist and photographer, Kenji Maeji.

At a casting each model is given time to show their portfolio of modeling images, hand over comp cards and have a brief discussion about what they have been up too, who they have been working for etc etc. If you have ever had a job interview, then castings are this very thing, however you can be cast for modeling jobs from one a week to 8 or so a day, sometimes even more. It can be a stressful experience and obviously very competitive. At most castings your interview "time to shine" is all over within 10 - 20 mins. If you're unlucky (or this case, very lucky) the interview can be over with in a spilt second.  At this particular casting as I enter the studio, Bianca expresses very openly, and I haven't even hit the table yet, "Oh, YOU already have the job! I did the casting whilst I was sitting outside in the car." "

And I didn't even get to a chance to say" Hello my name is....."

Models Inc..... continued

Lesson #2 Booker: "Macushla, you're not wrapped up in cotton wool anymore!"

Me: *sob sob*a hard and fast reality check. I was out in the big wide world and had to grow up quickly. Living away home, the jobs were coming in and it was getting serious and a little competitive, time to get "modelling" Cush.

Models Inc.

I moved into Vauclause model house in Sydney, the day after schoolies week. Models inc. was a large white Grecian style home. Many of these rooms were rented to young models from all over the world.
My most fond memories of my days staying there are;
$2.80 Lambrusco bottles of wine, bus rides to castings all over town, my first magazine editorials & reading "Interview with a Vampire."

No news is bad news.

Sunday  Mail Style section. Each month throughout the year, I was booked for the newspaper style section. This paper was released at 12pm on Saturday nights, most of the time I stayed up late so I could collect the new- fresh copies from my local 7 Eleven.

Retouching??

* Please note all images are taken on film cameras. This meant we had to wait for polariods to develop  before commencing to shoot, there was no retouching faces, eye colours, lip shapes or skin tones. Models had to be fit and healthy, no liquify to make someone look thinner. All shoots took time and it was very important that the team were well versed in their craft.
